‘Philomela’ stylised music video

I was absolutely delighted when Maddie’s producer asked me to shoot her first real music video to accompany her stunningly beautiful single, ‘Philomela’.
She had a rough narrative and aesthetic in mind, and the GHP team filled in the blanks.
We scouted a perfect location, shot everything in just a few hours, and my second camera op, Lucy, even employed watercraft (her kayak) to shoot from on the canal itself.
Directing the team was such a pleasure. In fact, the whole shoot was incredibly smooth, but still very calculated on my part. Every camera move in every shot was meticulously purposeful, with shots of Maddie being smooth and gimbal-stabilised; and shots of the actor being handheld and more earthy.
The edit has a classy grade and thoughtful cuts, finished off with a clever credit sequence at the end.
I’m absolutely honoured to have been a part of this release, and the final result of this great collaboration will make me proud for a very long time. Check out some BTS stills that Lucy got below, followed by the finished video.
